 16/10/22 : Karnak Temple - EDFU - Luxor -

Our boat was docked at bay.  After breakfast, we were taken by Ghoda Gadi  to Karnak Temple, one of the biggest complex. The Temple of Karnak is located in present-day Luxor, which was known as Waset to the Ancient Egyptians and Thebes to the Ancient Greeks. More than 40,000 people called the city home, and it served as Egypt's capital during the Middle and New Kingdoms.  The temple complex is home to three main temples, several small enclosed temples, combining the achievements of many generations of ancient builders over a period of 1500 years.

The Temple of Karnak was believed to be the spot where creation began. They also believed it was a point of interaction between the god Amun-Ra and Egyptians. It is important to Egypt's cultural history because it was a place of worship and provides clues  about the ancient Egyptian religion.

After lunch on the cruise boat, we went walking to the Temple of Edfu is an Egyptian temple located on the west bank of the Nile in Edfu, Upper Egypt.  It is one of the best preserved shrines in Egypt. The temple was built in the Ptolemaic Kingdom between 237 and 57 BC. The inscriptions on its walls provide important information on language, myth and religion during the Hellenistic period in Egypt. The town is known for the major Ptolemaic temple, built between 237 BC and 57 BC, into the reign of Cleopatra VII. Of all the temple remains in Egypt, the Temple of Horus at Edfu is the most completely preserved. Preserved by desert sand, which filled the place after the pagan cult was banned, the temple is dedicated to Horus, the avenging son of Isis and Osiris.

Edfu was a settlement and cemetery site from around 3000 BC onward. It was the 'home' and cult centre of the falcon god Horus of Behdet (the ancient name for Edfu), although the Temple of Horus as it exists today is PtolemaicThe temple was the annual festival of coronation and both the divine birth & victory of Horus. The Edfu Temple had an architectural style of the new kingdom (1570-1050 BC) and possessed a "Mamisi" a greek divine birth chamber at the west entrance reaching 36m in height and has two granite statues of Horus. This Ptolemaic temple, built between 237 and 57 BC, is one of the best-preserved ancient monuments in Egypt

Returned to the cruise boat, in the evening we sailed to Luxor , which was Ancient Egyptian capital.
